The hockey community in the province is mourning the loss of 16-year-old J.D. Trainor of Paradise, who passed away this week after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dr. Jared Butler, President of Hockey NL, expressed deep sadness on behalf of the hockey community, as well as Trainor's family and friends.
Today, on Hockey Day in Canada, Butler noted that the occasion feels markedly different due to J.D.'s untimely passing. He encourages everyone to celebrate J.D.'s life and honor his unwavering love for the sport.
"J.D.’s character and the impact he had on so many people are truly remarkable," said Butler. "Despite his diagnosis, surgery, and treatment, he not only returned to play hockey with his high school team but also competed in the U18 AAA league, playing at the highest level in the province with the Pinnacle Growlers."
